CAJM 2012 in Detroit

After two "coastal" conferences, CAJM 2012 took place in the lively city and surrounding suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, February 26-28. The conference combined meaningful visits to fascinating museums, distinguished speakers, and thoughtful sessions that allowed us to reflect on our work and consider the future of our field.
The wealth of Jewish resources in Detroit includes four CAJM member institutions: the Holocaust Memorial Center, the Janice Charach Gallery and Shalom Street children's museum (both located at the JCC of Metropolitan Detroit, which is also home to the new Berman Center for the Performing Arts), and the Goodman Family Judaic & Archival Museum at Temple Israel. We also visited the Motown Museum, Cranbrook Art Museum, Arab American National Museum, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Detroit Institute of the Arts.
Program Co-Chairs were Deborah Cardin (left) of the Jewish Museum of Maryland and Josh Perelman (right) of the National Museum of American Jewish History. Local Host Chairs were Stephen Goldman (below left) of the Holocaust Memorial Center and Terri Stearn (below right) of the Janice Charach Gallery. Congratulations to all.
