In October of 2017, the Council of American Jewish Museums offered a limited number of competitive fellowships for its program to Poland in Fall of 2017. The trip was part of CAJM’s emerging international fellowship program—designed to immerse our members in essential learning experiences abroad, with private access to leading colleagues, institutions, and sites, as well as opportunities to talk with colleagues about the work of Jewish museums globally.

CAJM Chair Deborah Cardin accompanied the five fellowship recipients to POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and other sites in Warsaw; Chmielnik, Dabrowka Tarnowska, and Tarnow; the Auschwitz Jewish Center; Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum; sites in Krakow, including the Galicia Jewish Museum and the Jewish Quarter. The program was designed with Taube Jewish Heritage Tours, with counsel from CAJM Advisor Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett.
